Verdiem is one company built solely around PC power management. I’m sure they have happy customers, but I would pass them over for a systems management solution that has integrated power management. (Link: Verdiem Surveyor)

I think it is refreshing for a company to concentrate on one thing and do it well than to try to cover everything and do it poorly. I do not think the reviewer is unbiased in his view.

Thanks for the comment. I have never claimed to be unbiased. There is no such thing, so I don’t try. I do try to give reasons for my opinion though. There is nothing wrong with doing one thing well, but using a bunch of point products adds management overhead. It’s possible to do multiple things well. That is why there are “systems lifecycle” vendors. Every organization has to balance out the ease of management of a unified solution with the possible advantages of having a bundle of point products. They are two different strategies. I prefer the former usually.

Hi,
I am biased by the way but here I hope is a clear statement on this topic, sure probably a systems management solution might be better, most commercial power mgmt products work well within SCCM or others, However the point is simple, until they offer all the features that are important in this area people will look for a better focused solution: a) accurate, granular reporting b)proper measurement c) energy audit features
Those three alone are not going to be top on a general sys mgmt solutions roadmap.
