I recently needed tell a web designer some colors that I liked for a new website I’m working on. I wanted to be specific to try and get the mock-up right as soon as possible. I looked around and tried some color scheme tools. There is a list of some of them at the WordPress Codex. The ones I tried took way too much time and skill on my part. I solved my problem using a Firefox Add-on that I have had for a while called Web Developer. It is quite handy even for a beginner like myself.
If you want great looking color schemes in a flash, here is what to do:
- Install the Web Developer Add-On
- Visit a great looking website with Firefox
- Click on “View Color Information” within the Information menu on the Web Developer Toolbar
- You will get this:
You can quickly assemble many different pleasing palettes this way.
One thing to note; it won’t capture the link hover color. If you want to see that, you can select “View Style Information” under the CSS menu, then click on the link to find the style information for that link. It will look like this:
